Alwe-Drys bezeichnet einen getrockneten und konservierten Biofilm aus Mikroalgen. Die einzelnen Algen wachsen unter kontrollierten Bedingungen zu einer einheitlichen Schicht zusammen. Innerhalb dieser Struktur kann der Nährstoffaustausch auch zwischen den einzelnen Algen stattfinden. Zudem wird eine Schutzschicht ausgebildet, um die Algen vor äußeren Umwelteinflüssen zu schützen.
